Why be a volunteer?
It’s not for the money it’s not for the fame,
And it’s not for any personal gain.
It’s just for love of fellow man, it’s just to lend a helping hand.
It’s just to give a tithe of self.
That’s something you can’t buy with wealth.
It’s not the medals worn with pride
It’s for that feeling deep inside.
It’s that reward down in your heart.
It’s the feeling that you’ve been a part
Of helping others far and near
and that’s what makes you a volunteer.

Celebrate Our Club’s Volunteer Spirit!

decorativeIn the coming year, there will be more opportunities than ever to volunteer your time for the numerous good causes our club embraces! There is something for everyone to become involved. Remember – we are a service club not a social club! Ideally, we would like everyone to be on at least one committee. We serve in so many areas, it should be easy to find a committee that lines up with a subject that you are passionate about. Share your ideas with a Board member and we will put them into action. If you are not sure which committee is for you – we will be happy to find the perfect fit! The main thing is to give back and you will reap so many rewards.

Our first major volunteer event is the General Federation of Women’s Clubs’ (GFWC) (the “Mothership” as Sonja calls it), annual National Day of Service

(September 28th). WCV is a registered participant with GFWC. This is our way of supporting Federation. We are on the calendar to volunteer at the North County Food Bank (located in Vista) on September 21st from 2pm to 4pm. We need 14 volunteers. All of the information is contained in the flyer below. If you are not comfortable or unable to go to the Food Bank to volunteer, we are also collecting donations of non-perishable food items to stock their Pantry. Items will be collected throughout the month of September at our various meetings. We could use help coordinating this event. Anyone interested in being on this committee? Let Donna DiMambro or Liz Franciscus know asap.

Palomar District Fundraiser – Sunflower Tea in Julian

Volunteers Needed To Help Set The Tables

The Palomar District is hosting a beautiful Sunflower Tea on September 24th at 12:00 noon to be held at the Julian Town Hall. Donna DiMambro and I are co-fundraisers for the Palomar District. The Tea is our first fundraiser. The Tea will be catered by the Julian Tea and Cottage Arts shop owned by Julian Woman’s Club member Edie Seger. Registration is $40 per person. The Tea will include sandwiches, scones, and a seasonal dessert. We will have opportunity baskets from all of the clubs, door prizes and entertainment. Tables with 6 seats can be purchased for $220. The Tea immediately follows the District Board of Directors meeting which will be held at the Julian Woman’s Club at 10:00am. If you do not plan to attend the meeting but do plan to attend the Tea, please consider coming up a little early to help set up for the Tea. All of the district clubs are being asked for volunteers to help with set up. It’s going to be a beautiful Tea and a lovely time of year to visit Julian. RSVPs and registration fees are due to Nancy B Jones, our Club Treasurer, by September 11th – the date of our first general meeting in September. Please support this fundraiser to help pay the costs incurred by the District every year.

Keep Track of Your Volunteer Hours

Please turn in your Volunteer Hours/Donations Tracking Form at our next general or evening meeting. Attendance at meetings and exercise routines can all be counted as hours. I will be working with Sandi Leyva to create an electronic hours form that can be submitted online. More info to come on this. Summer hours or donations can be consolidated on one Volunteer Hours sheet. The information is used at the end of the year to track our club members’ volunteer service and monetary contributions and is included in our award-winning club narratives. If you need a blank hours sheet to fill in, I am happy to email or mail you one. Thank you for taking the time to submit your hours!

Save Your Gently Used Paperback Books

Our new District President Sherry Lutes has asked us to save our gently used paperback books to be donated to Veterans Hospitals, Wounded Warrior Programs, and USO Centers. More Information on this later.
