Service

WCV’s acts of service support nonprofit organizations in Vista and are carried out with love by all of its members. Some service activities are performed during a meeting, while others include a field trip to the organization’s site. Still others are spearheaded by a committee or an individual member.

Upcoming Activities for 2024-2025

2024-2025 will be busy! In September, we’ll collect non-perishable items and volunteer at the North County Food Bank for our GFWC Day of Service. In October, we have the Fall Festival at Alta Vista Botanical Gardens, and we will be making pink cancer car seatbelt covers. In November, our focus will be on veterans; we’ll make wreaths and will be hosting a fundraiser for K9 Guardians.  In December, we’ll serve an evening meal to residents of Solutions for Change, a group that works to get homeless individuals back to living independently.

January 2025 is the walk to raise awareness of human trafficking. In February, we’ll make door/fridge packets for Community Vial of Life. Save the date of April 6, 2024 for our major fundraising event, the second annual citywide Vista Walk for Autism Awareness and Acceptance. April also means Earth Day where we host a membership table at Alta Vista Botanical Gardens. In May, we’ll work with the Boys and Girls Club of Vista. WCV Donation Day is scheduled for May 14, 2025, where we will award scholarships and donations to numerous worthy individuals and organizations.

Boys and Girls Club of Vista

The Boys and Girls Club healthy snack drive in May 2024 was a great success!! WCV donated $600 worth of snacks for summer camp this year to help fight “food insecurity” for kids attending the Vista Boys and Girls Club summer program. Your donations will provide snacks for kids who are unable to bring food from home.

Domestic & Sexual Violence Awareness & Prevention Program
Donna Weber, Chairman

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Here is the seventh of the eight focus areas from the California Federated Women’s Clubs Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention Program: Child Abuse Prevention.

Child Abuse is when a parent or caregiver, whether through action or failing to act, causes injury, emotional harm, risk of serious harm or death to a child. There are many forms of child maltreatment, including neglect, physical abuse, emotional abuse, exploitation & sexual abuse. According to Prevent Child Abuse America, there are Five Protective Factors in strengthening families:

  1. Parental Resilience
  2. Social Connections
  3. Knowledge of Parenting & Child Development
  4. Concrete Support in Times of Need
  5. Children’s Social & Emotional Development

Blankets for Covers of Love
Nancy Ellis, Chairman

The Woman’s Club supports the Vista Community Clinic by donating handmade fleece baby blankets and crocheted hats to new mothers of babies who visit the clinic for newborn care and classes. Nancy is responsible for making the majority of the items we donate. She is happy to teach our members how to make the fleece blankets with tied fringe which takes about an hour. The new moms at Vista Community Clinic love receiving them!

We are celebrating 15 years of Kids in the Garden! Every second Saturday, WVC members host Kids in the Garden. Earth Day Festival was celebrated on April 20, 2024, with vendors, plant sales, kids’ activities, and environmental information. Donna Weber organizes our kids’ activities and would love your help! In March our families loved learning about soils, composting, and spring planting. WC Vista is a lifetime member of the Alta Vista Botanical Gardens, so you can visit anytime – for no charge!
