My theme this year reflects the image of the hummingbird – “Grace in Motion, Power In Flight,” let’s all be like lovely hummingbirds – beautiful to look at and a powerful force when we join together!

Hi Ladies!

One of the more powerful ways that our club can make an invaluable impact is to participate in the GFWC’s Legislation and Public Policy program. At our October meeting, we will learn how our club can be a local advocate for the GFWC’s legislative agenda. It is through the national network of grassroots advocates that the Federation gains its political influence.

By signing up for GFWC Legislative alerts, you can help support a federal bipartisan bill to protect children when using social media platforms.

The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) establishes a legally-relevant “duty of care” for social media companies, requiring these platforms to alter design features, such as algorithms, that can harm children. The bill is written to especially protect marginalized and vulnerable minors from rampant online harms, such as: sexual exploitation, romantic fantasies, illicit drugs, suicide, harassment, eating disorder content, and more. It is critically important to hold social media companies accountable and to ensure that parents have the tools, safeguards, and transparency they need to help protect young people in the virtual space.

To help us to understand how the GFWC Legislative Alerts work and learn about the bills being sponsored by GFWC, we are fortunate to have Kathy Holm, CFWC Chair for Legislation and Public Policy, as our guest speaker.
