Thanks to Theresa Solhtalab who will be promoting Penny Pines at our WC Vista meetings. She will be collecting your clinking coins and silent dollars for the reforestation program for our National Forests in California. We can get your saved pennies back into circulation! With so many wildfires, the need for new trees and forest care is stronger than ever! Bring your Penny Pines donations to the DAY and the NIGHT meeting. We have collected enough for TWO “plantations” already this year and appreciate your support for this long-standing project!
Our Kids in the Garden class meets monthly at Alta Vista Botanical Gardens, located at the top of the hill inside Brengle Terrace Park. We are in our 17th year of bringing families outdoors to learn about and enjoy nature! If you like kids and gardening, we’d love to have you join us for a couple of hours! The Kids in the Garden class meets on the second Saturday of each month and is a fun way to serve the community! Our September 12 class will be on BIRDS – one of Farmer Jones’s favorite lessons. Class is open to all to learn about birds’ special adaptations – and a chance to look closely at feathers and nests. We follow up with a walkabout through the Gardens.
The Woman’s Club of Vista is a Lifetime Member of the Gardens so you are welcome to visit at any time. If there’s an attendant at the entry gate, you just need to identify the name of our WCV President. The Gardens are open daily for your visit – rain or shine.
Families will be constructing scarecrows for the Contest at our 18th Fall Fun Festival at AVBG on October 10. It’s a FREE event. Please bring in old jeans and long-sleeve shirts, as well as BLING! Families love to use colorful scarves, vests, hats, and costume jewelry when they create their scarecrows. Contact Farmer Jones if you have clothes and bling pieces to donate – before our Supply Day on October 3. YOU can sponsor a scarecrow for $25 – thank you Judy P, Kati, and Helen for your support again this year! You can even work a shift in the WCV booth – a great chance to interact with the community, share about our active club, and recruit new members!
