Buon Natale – Merry Christmas

The Holidays are steeped in tradition and having a parent from Italy in our house, we followed Italian tradition during the Christmas Holidays. The Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve (there were one or two that I did not eat). The meal was to bring family together to prepare for Christmas Day. After dinner on Christmas Eve, we would go to Midnight Mass, while Mom, Grandmom and Aunts stayed behind to start to prepare the big Christmas dinner. Christmas was an Italian Feast of antipasto, escarole soup, ravioli or lasagna, meatballs, roast chicken, roast potatoes, salad and of course lots of bread and wine. There was also fruit and nuts tossed in for good measure. Looking back, I may talk about the meal being the highlight, but really the gathering together with my cousins and their families was priceless. We don’t serve as much now, but I enjoy cooking an Italian Feast for my children and grandchildren on Christmas Day.

During this holiday season, it is so wonderful to see so many new faces at our meetings. We welcome you to our traditions and are anxious to hear about yours. Being part of the Woman’s Club of Vista has given us all new insights to community and friendship. Feel free to contact me with suggestions and questions about our club. We grow by listening and learning to work together.
