There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as WCV members had the privilege of witnessing the Southwest Canine Companions” Graduation Ceremony at North Coast Church. The graduating class consisted of twenty-two specially bred Golden Retriever/Lab mixes trained by their dedicated puppy raisers in up to 45 physical tasks to help children, adults and veterans with disabilities. Two of the dogs were assigned to clinical and court as facility dogs to be a calming presence. The dogs are given to disabled persons free of charge. Canine Companions, a national organization, recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. The WCV will be scheduling a tour of the CC facility in Oceanside and is planning to incorporate a service project to support our local Canine Companions in the coming term.
