In October, we will be reading and discussing Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt.
Our Sept 17, 2025 meeting welcomed special Guest Speaker, Annemarie DuQuette, a friend of WCV member Judy Pantazo, who presented a powerful presentation on how to get started writing, how to write a book and how to get published. She has published over 25 books for Harlequin Romances. Annemarie repeatedly said “good readers make good writers”. She shared her life experiences, “military” brat travel childhood and military adulthood and told us how it allowed her to use those experiences for her books. She has even written a script treatment for a Star Wars movie, but unaccepted so far. Annemarie suggested we all write a paragraph about a mailbox, and as she wrapped up the session with Q and A, we shared our writings. It was astounding to hear our members read their short paragraph about a mail box – Each member had a different take on the mailbox – some were the mailbox, others were observers of a mail box, and Annemarie suggested we recognize that we all had the start of a possible book – just flesh it out. Just like a good book stays in your head for a few days, I have rewritten my mailbox paragraph in my head a couple of times, but not ready for Hollywood yet.
