The Vista Woman’s Book Club December 18, 2024 Meeting is a Plain Brown Paper Book Exchange.
At our December meeting, we will do a book swap where participants wrap up one of their used favorite books in brown paper and exchange them with others:
How it works:
Participants wrap their books in plain brown paper and include a description on the outside that doesn’t give away the title or author. Bring the wrapped book with you to the meeting and put it on the dining table. During dinner, we will plug our book by reading our short description of why we loved the book and we can pass it around the table. (You can touch the package to see if it is a hard cover or a soft cover, but no peeking). You can answer questions without spoilers of what is inside or the story itself.
Be honest but objective with your description. Give just enough information to convince them to pick your book. At the end of the dinner, each member will then choose a book. If at the end not everyone has a book they are happy with, shuffle around or exchange it. Everyone should leave happy with a great new book to read.
Why It’s Fun
Book exchanges are a great way to pass on books you no longer read and discover new ones. Vista Book club members love books, so this is a fun opportunity to gather with our friends who love books and exchange books that were meaningful to us.
Here are some tips for the book exchange:
–Type of books: Book can be fiction, nonfiction, memoirs, cookbooks, coffee table books, children’s books, and “everything else.”
–Write a description: You can write a short description on the outside of their book that won’t give away the title or author.
