Civic Engagement & Outreach
WCV is active in a large number of projects that fall under this category, which comprises veterans, homelessness, civic affairs, and food insecurity, to name a few.
North County Food Bank
WCV members volunteer for a shift at the North County Food Bank’s warehouse about once per quarter. On the last shift in June 2025, 11 members sorted and bagged potatoes and onions. In March 2025, the group packed goodies in children’s backpacks so they had food for the weekend when school was out.
Civic-Related
WCV is a member of the Vista Chamber. Members regularly attend the monthly mixer, government affairs meetings, and special events such as the Strawberry Run, where a WCV team walked the 5K.
One of our members is Chair of the Vista Planning Commission and another serves on the Community Safety Commission.
Foundation for Women Warriors
In April 2025, Keisha Javis-Jones, Community Partnerships Director of Foundation for Women Warriors, spoke at our day meeting about the 104-year-old nonprofit organization that is dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing of Women Veterans and their children. Members regularly help out at the warehouse sorting items, and a drive for baby items was held in the spring. FFWW was also a Donation Day 2025 recipient.
Operation Hope North County
WCV plans to serve a meal in July 2025 to Operation Hope North County residents who are recovering from homelessness. Two WCV members serve on the Board of Directors.
Memberships
WCV is a member of the Vista Historical Society and the North County Philanthrophy Council.
Donation Day 2025
Civic-related nonprofits that received money from WCV included REINS, San Diego Center for the Blind, and Veterans Writing Group.
Miscellaneous
WCV members supported the Girl Scouts annual cookie drive via Operation Thin Mint in early 2025. Members also raised funds to send to CFWC for the LA fire victims.
