ESO
ESO stands for Epsilon Sigma Omicron and is a special part of our organization at the state and national levels. It’s a self-paced reading program encouraging education and literacy.
ESO requires a free membership at the CFWC (state) level. To join, complete a pledge form and have it signed by your club ESO Chairman (Susan D.) and your District ESO Chairman (open). Then you can forward it to the CFWC Chairman, Reggie Mattox.
Once you’ve pledged, you can then start working up to membership, which requires reading 16 books in 4 categories and writing 1-2 sentences about each book. Additional Levels include Star, Torch, and multiple levels of Century. Once you reach Torch level, no book descriptions are required to be submitted, just the name of the book and its author.
GFWC provides a recommended reading list to guide readers in their book selections, and the list is broken down into 34 categories. The categories are similar to genres and encourage the ESO reader to branch out and read books in multiple areas that they may not have naturally selected. Most of the books listed are best sellers, so you will be choosing the best of the best. As you look at the list, you might even hear yourself saying “I have been meaning to read that book,” so now is the time!
The CFWC has made it simple to do the paperwork by providing all of the forms on their ESO page here: https://www.cfwc.org/eso/.
We hope our book-loving members will consider joining ESO.
