The Book Club had our annual book exchange, a favorite book wrapped in plain brown paper with a recap written on the plain brown wrapper to pique interest. There was one opportunity to steal a book from another member. We had a great variety of favorite books wrapped for this meeting. Many members have stated that they have enjoyed our book selections this year – some books they had never heard of, but enjoyed the book variety and lively discussions of the book. Our book choice was Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver, a great favorite author of many of the members. Our book club always invites new members to attend.

Our Book Club selection for January 2026, How to Age Disgracefully by Clare Pooley is a heartwarming novel that explores themes of friendship and self-discovery among characters of different ages. The story follows Daphne, who, feeling invisible on her 70th birthday, decides to seek companionship and embrace life again. The book has been praised for its humor and warmth, with reviews calling it an “uproarious romp” and “a love letter to the human spirit.”

Our book for February is “Swan Song” by Elin Hilderbrand. It is the grand finale to her beloved Nantucket series, wrapping up the beachy, drama-filled world she’s built over many novels. The story follows Ed Kapenash, the island’s police chief on the brink of retirement, whose plans are disrupted when a wealthy couple’s mansion burns down, and their personal assistant goes missing. As Ed investigates, the novel weaves together personal secrets, community gossip, and the luxurious yet often tumultuous lives of Nantucket’s residents. With familiar characters and a rich setting, Swan Song offers a captivating mix of mystery, relationships, and the charm of a tight-knit island community.
