SUMMARY:January 2025 Monthly Evening Meeting
DESCRIPTION:In January\, our program will celebrate art with watercolors where we’ll be guided by Kene Lohmann from the Escondido Art Association to create our very own watercolor paintings. \nWe’ll also be in our new home at Shadowridge Golf Club. You will get to choose from three dinner entrees\, and special dietary needs will be honored. The bar will also be available for those of you who would like a cocktail with dinner. \nThe evening begins at 6PM and includes a short club meeting\, the program with paint materials included\, your meal\, and informal networking. Cost is $20\, and RSVPs are required by January 15\, 2025. RSVP by clicking one of the blue boxes to the right on this page.  \nAbout the Speaker: \nBorn and raised in North San Diego County\, Kene Lohmann grew up painting since early childhood\, developing his passion for watercolor. He was privileged to study under noted San Diego County water colorist\, Thelma Speed Houston. \nKene later spent a number of years in Hawaii\, where he continued to study\, paint and exhibit his works. His colorful landscapes invite the viewer into the painting for a visual escape. \nHis love of nature and the world around us is captured in his works that dazzle the eye with their intense color palette. “I strive for that emotional reaction connecting the viewer to my work\,” states the artist. \nKene’s watercolors are treasured in many private collections throughout the United States and Europe. His watercolors have earned numerous awards in juried shows and exhibitions. \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Payment Options\n \n Pay by Credit Card via DonorBox\n \n Pay by PayPal\, Venmo\, or Credit Card via PayPal

SUMMARY:December 2024 Book Club
DESCRIPTION:The Vista Woman’s Book Club December 18\, 2024 Meeting is a Plain Brown Paper Book Exchange. At our December meeting\, we will do a book swap where participants wrap up one of their used favorite books in brown paper and exchange them with others: How it works:Participants wrap their books in plain brown paper and include a description on the outside that doesn’t give away the title or author.  Bring the wrapped book with you to the meeting and put it on the dining table. During dinner\, we will plug our book by reading our short description of why we loved the book and we can pass it around the table. (You can touch the package to see if it is a hard cover or a soft cover\, but no peeking). You can answer questions without spoilers of what is inside or the story itself. \nBe honest but objective with your description. Give just enough information to convince them to pick your book. At the end of the dinner\, each member will then choose a book.  If at the end not everyone has a book they are happy with\, shuffle around or exchange it. Everyone should leave happy with a great new book to read. \nWhy It’s FunBook exchanges are a great way to pass on books you no longer read and discover new ones.  Vista Book club members love books\, so this is a fun opportunity to gather with our friends who love books and exchange books that were meaningful to us.   \nHere are some tips for the book exchange:–Type of books:  Book can be fiction\, nonfiction\, memoirs\, cookbooks\, coffee table books\, children’s books\, and “everything else.” –Write a description:  You can write a short description on the outside of their book that won’t give away the title or author.

Many applicants report monthly incomes of less than $2000\, far below what is necessary to live in San Diego. SOPFC launched a gift card program to help cancer patients with food\, gas\, and purchases at big box stores like Target and Walmart to meet immediate needs.  The gift card program has been a resounding success\, providing 455 grants totaling $186\,125\, with an average grant of $400. \nVembra Holnagel is a founding board member of Shades of Pink Foundation California and a past president of the board. She was invited into the nonprofit by her daughter. Joining the organization gave Vembra a chance to help women in her community and spend time with her daughter. She also had a personal reason for working with SOPFCA. In 2012\, she lost a dear friend to breast cancer after a long and difficult battle. \nActivity: Our activity will be to hand-write letters to women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. A hand-written letter has the special power to heal.
